Product Regrets || Seventeen Stay Time Long Wear Primer

It's not often that I write about products that I don't like. I would rather just chuck it in the corner of my make up collection and forget about it. But every so often a products come around and it's so awful and has nothing but bad qualities that I can't help but write about it.

Recently, I've been really interested in primers. After doing a bit of research I decided that I was going to buy the Smashbox Photo Finish More Than Primer Blemish Control which contains salicylic acid to help prevent bacteria from causing breakouts. But after visiting Boots and putting it into my basket, trying to justify paying £28 for a primer when I've never used a primer before, I put it back... with great difficulty of course. So I decided to have a look around to find some cheaper alternatives for my first ever primer. I came across the Seventeen Stay Time Long Wear Primer and decided to give it a try.

The bottle is really small and contains 20g of product, so I was a bit surprised when it rung up as £5.49 (somehow I thought it was cheaper when I picked it up). That's a lot of coins spent on something so small. As a primer virgin, I would have loved for the packaging to have contained some kind of directions of use. You might think it's pretty obvious but I like to know for sure. The first time I used it, I found it quite thick. It's also quite pale on the skin, which is fine for me as I'm fair skinned but I can imagine it wouldn't be great for more olive skin tones. But the thing I hate (yes, hate) the most about this product is that it is so difficult to blend and spread. It dries so fast into the skin that your left with unblended lines and an uneven look. But if you try to rectify it by attempting to blend it out, the primer actually peels off of you skin like dried up Prittstick glue. And don't even think about applying foundation over this because it is so noticeable! The foundation sticks to the patches of peeling primer leaving your skin looking like you have really bad dry patches all over you face. As for it being long wear, I didn't see any signs of my make up budging throughout the day, but would you sacrifice flawless looking skin for longevity?? I know I wouldn't. Who would want dry patchy skin to be long lasting??

I've used this primer twice and can safely say I will definitely not be using it again. I just amazed that it's managed to make it to Seventeen's shelves. This is hands down one of the worst products I have ever used but I hasn't turned me against using other primers in the future. I still have my heart set on the Smashbox Blemish Control Primer, but will have to save my pennies for that one.

Rimmel London Lasting Finish Lipstick Review

After picking this lipstick up on a whim solely on the colour of the sticker at the bottom of the tube, I was a little disappointed. I hear you ask "well why didn't you test it?" and my answer to that is that there were no testers and there was a big bar code sticker preventing me for opening it. So when I got home and opened the tube, I wasn't too impressed with the colour. It looks very pinky but has quite strong orange tones which don't really go with my skin tone. Also, I found that the lipstick is a bit drying and didn't apply very well to my lips. This is a lipstick that will most definitely collect dust in a corner of my make up collection but it hasn't put me off trying other Rimmel lipsticks, especially in the newer Kate collection as I've heard that they are great.

Late last year I found myself struggling with lots of dry skin on my face. I don't like using heavy moisturisers during the day as I find my make up doesn't sit properly and it can make me extra shiny, so I decided I would buy a night cream instead. I hadn't done any research into the best night creams so sought out my favourite skincare brand, Simple. I found this Vital Vitamin Night Cream for £5.59 and thought, why not?

 

Simple say that this night creams helps restore and replenish the skin whilst your sleeping. It contains 3 vital vitamins which are Pro-Vitamin B5, Vitamin E and F. It also contains 3 skin loving nutrients which are Glycerin, Allantoin and Bisabolol. All these ingredients help keep you skin moisturised and replenished.

 

The cream comes in a plastic pot with a screw top lid. The cream is very thin and light but isn't liquidy. For a night cream, the pot is quite big and there is a lot of product inside. When I first applied the cream, it felt really nice on my skin but it took quite a while to soak in. This was the first time I had ever used a night cream so just assumed it took a little longer. When I woke up the cream was still sitting on my skin and hadn't be absorbed. My skin was free from any dryness but was left with a rather greasy residue which I definitely didn't like. I put it down to using too much so used a much smaller amount the next night but found that I woke up with the same problem.

 

I used it a couple more times but the breaking point for me was when I started to find myself breaking out a little. I don't like to be one of them people that solely blame a product for a their breakout because there can be so many different reasons for it but I'm sure that the greasy residue left on my skin over night isn't helping. I don't think I'll find myself using the rest of the pot let alone repurchasing it. I would recommend this to people that don't have acne-prone skin. It is great at banishing dry skin but for me it does more bad than good.

 



 

Product I Regret Buying #2 ...

After bleaching my hair about a million times all my natural shine had disappeared. My hair looked so dull and all I wanted was a bit of shine. A friend of mine has the same problem so she bought Phil Smith Mirror Shine Spray. She said she liked it but found that the spray gave her headaches after using it so she gave it to me to test out. Thankfully after using it I didn't suffer with any headaches but it left my hair looking really greasy! There was no shine, just a wet clumpy look which I really didn't want. I haven't tried many shine sprays so I'm not sure what they're meant to look like but I really didn't like this one. I've also never tried anything by Phil Smith so I wouldn't write the entire brand off.

Products I Regret Buying ...

Buying a benefit product is rare for me because of the price tag. I bought Benefits Porefessional to minimise the appearance of the pores around my nose but after using it before applying my make up, I've found no difference in the size of my pores. I was really disappointed with this product because I've heard such great things about it. Sadly, it just does nothing for my skin.
